However, I feel as though the subject isn't really projected against the background (in other words, it's hard to see). You have the right idea, using green as a complementary colour, but the contrast isn't steep enough to define the focus. If you brought a lighter green (and maybe blue?) into the background the subject would be more visible. To take it a step further, you could even add some green reflections onto the seahorse, and reflect some purple onto the background (like seaweed or something) and bring the two halves of the image together.
